Rock, 2001
sandstone
120x110x150 cm
The Rock was made at a stone carvers' symposium in Slovakia. I wanted to create a sculpture of seemingly natural origin through an artificial process. The sculpture offers different information from different angles or positions: while from a distance it seems to be a natural rock, from close up the visible chisel marks point to a totally different origin, and the large hole on the far side questions the solidity of the whole, transforming it into a kind of shell.
